Lack of open tea rooms in Leyburn
Sunday, 1st October 2023

Swelled the congregation at Wensleydale Evangelical Church this morning - the earnest preacher led us through Jesus calling Matthew in Luke. Some in the row behind us said they remembered us from our visit in early 2018! My memory isn't that good. I forgot to put money into the collection box afterwards.

We tried to find tea rooms in Leyburn afterwards but they were all closed apart from a cake place which seemed nice, but we needed more than cake. So we raided a One Stop and microwaved stuff back at Bellerby.

Queens head

In the evening we had a good meal at the Queens Head in Finghall. Another pub with character but sweetly relaxed, quiet, you could hear yourself think. We both had roast lamb which came very quickly. We had had our mains inside half an hour so I felt I had to have a dessert! A pleasant time though a bit muddy where I parked the car, and also the way there was a single track road at points.

The loudest noise this evening were the birds in trees close to the cottage in Bellerby where we were staying. I don't know whether they were rooks or starlings but their discordant cawings were a welcome chorus to hear. A reminder that nature still exists in pockets despite man's assault on it.
