Breakfasts we often had in the Britannia Restaurant. It was a disappointment that we didn't often speak to other people at breakfast and lunch, the gap of inches between tables created a barrier not usually overcome. Part of the ritual of being sat down is that the waiters unfold your serviette and lay it on your lap, I felt uncomfortable at this.
For breakfast I settled on an omelette with everything apart from chilli (what a strange ingredient to have in an omelette!) Oh and crispy thin bacon on the side - delicious! Oh and oatmeal with milk and an orange juice and coffee too.
We might then sit in a lounge and to not embarrass the staff have hot chocolate (which comes with chocolate nibs and marshmallow bits and cream). Expensive and I dread to think what the final cabin bill will be.
Lunch often in the Lido upstairs. Probably because of fewer passengers onboard this wasn't the mad crush that the buffet was on other cruises we've been on. I settled on what they called tacos (nachos with various condiments) and a glass of cranberry juice for this.
At 3pm we sometimes did fourses, very genteel, in the Queens Room. A round of sandwiches, then scones, then desserts - I liked the scones with cream and strawberry jam best though I had to request plain scones rather than ones with fruit in them.
We normally had dinner in the Britannia Restaurant at 6pm, with Klaus and Katrina and Madge and Julie who were good people to eat and talk with. One evening we did go to the Verandah Steakhouse for a special meal. This felt less special than when we've done this before. A waitress came to our table with a trolley of slabs of raw meat and began extolling the different possibilities. One slab called Wagyu was from cows that had been drinking wine, had been massaged each day, and listened to classical music. We needed finger bowls for the sticky bread we had to tear to start with. This meal will be an expensive addition to the cabin bill, the wine wasn't cheap and we only had small glasses.
Rarely in the evenings we might have a sherry if sitting in a lounge rather than going to the Theatre for a show.
