We had originally planned to go to Virginia's birthplace of the Isle of Man in 2020 but Covid happened. We rebooked for 2021 but had to postpone even later. Until now!
An easy if lengthy journey up to the Lancaster Holiday Inn going via the M6 Toll Road. Did have a little fun fitting two suitcases into my car which has a smaller boot than Virginia's - we took my car because of concerns of car size on the ferry to the Isle of Man.
We stopped to patronise Kentucky Fried Chicken at the Corley Motor Services where so long ago we first met Tabitha. I would have had a milkshake but for speed settled for a bottle of water. The two classic chicken pieces were filling but I missed a hint of vegetable matter.
The roads were mostly not too busy on this Easter Sunday, one of two patches of roadworks, but not too stressful a drive. We found the hotel surprisingly easily. The view from room 225 isn't spectacular (a boring flat roof) but they have deployed two beds for us to choose from. I was almost defeated in trying to use the shower until I turned the amount of water knob the right way.
We could have walked to the Brewers Fayre we had a carvery roast at this evening, instead wasting time driving and finding somewhere to park. Adequate but the parsnips were like old hags. And parsnips are a vegetable I adore. Our fault perhaps for coming to a carvery that had been running for most of the day?
