Packing Lunch

A quieter night followed by a quieter breakfast. A group from Kati Kati 2 had set off at 5am for a balloon ride. Good for them! I'm feeling that 4 nights in the Serengeti is 2 nights too many. We've already seen all the animals and the scenery or so I believe.

Today Goodluck and I got packed lunches prepared by the staff, then headed off for the Eastern Serengeti. The border with Central is marked by a forest of kopjes which we scanned for lions and leopards. Not much going but we did see a rock hyrax. After that the Eastern Serengeti is rather boring as landscapes go, flat plain of dryish grass. Did see a jackal chasing a rabbit, probably unsuccessfully as the rabbit was turbocharged. Nothing like being on something else's menu to give you legs.

Cheetah

Goodluck planned to have lunch at 1pm under the shade of a decent tree by a river. It was then I discovered the Eastern Serengeti has no restrooms, and I needed to go before lunch. Call me a wimp but we ended up at the Visitor Centre sometime later to have what the chef prepared. Goodluck spilt his juice over himself and I found myself being practised on by trainee guide George. To a large extent telling me what I already knew but it passed the time friendlily enough while Goodluck dried off.

We did see a number of cheetahs today (Goodluck seeing them first of course). One had its kill stolen by some nasty lions, one got to eat its kill then left it for the vultures and crossed the road right by us so I could have a decent photograph to show people back home. We saw plenty of lions, most not doing very much including an adorable lion cub resting in the shade on a rock. We saw more banded mongooses and Secretary birds and warthogs which Goodluck calls Pumba - apparently the name guides now use after a certain film. Another crime to be laid at Disney's door.

Kati Kati Tent

I'm very grateful I can recharge in the Land Cruiser. 2 out of the 3 lodges on the safari haven't had power sockets in the 'rooms'. I was told you don't need adaptors for Tanzania as they use UK sockets - false as they use the old style UK sockets.
