We got more supplies at a modern large Morrisons in Sandown which was very close to Godshill as Concorde flies. And didn't have to traverse any single track roads! The only challenge was finding milk and hand wash and toilet rolls and coffee and tea and Ovaltine in an unfamiliar store. Like bats who get confused if hedges are removed whenever a supermarket gets rearranged it takes me ages to get used to where things have moved to.
Towards midday we inched along the narrow to non-existent pavements in Godshill to the extensive model village which was splendid. It had a running model train layout, model rows of shops, model churches. It even had a model of itself inside the model village! As much as the scaled figures of times past the luscious reds of the bushes appealed.
Lunch was sandwiches at the Olive Garden right next door, quiet but I don't like being in a crowd. I had a cheese toastie and cranberry and raspberry tea, Virginia a sausage sandwich and ordinary tea. On our return to Cherry Lodge we investigated the Old Smithy which had a rival model village! Smaller, donationware rather than pay at the entrance. Some evocative fairy themed tableaux.
In the evening we ate at the Griffin, being early enough to avoid quiz night. The place is a hybrid pub and restaurant, one orders food at the bar which we didn't cotton onto immediately. The Griffin is dog friendly, there was a black labrador sniffing around at some people's food. We may return on Sunday for the night before we leave the Isle of Wight.
