I started planning this trip back before 2024! I contacted Audley Travel then, they have organised other odysseys well for me. I like the way they can tailor the trip how one likes, the local support on the ground, and also the locations they find to stay at! A nice touch they’ve started doing is sending a box of goodies before the trip!

To work out what to see I used sites like Atlas Obscura and TripAdvisor. Sometimes I just looked at what Google Maps showed in an area. Kind people have done interesting websites about their trips but information goes out of date quickly.

I tried different approaches to planning. Doing the plan as webpages which made recording HTML links easier. A Pages document which gave a single file but was unwieldy. Last was using Reminders which integrates with Apple Calendar. None has been perfect.

There have been surprises and disappointments along the way. So it was late in the day I noticed the SCMaglev wasn’t open on a Tuesday. Or that Hammer the Jumble was only on a Thursday (and then that stopped in September). Or that it was impossible to book Ninja Tokyo. I hoped to go and see Anemoia but there weren’t shows on the day it would have worked.
