Shibuya Sky

Did get a little sleep overnight and the alarm woke me at 6:45!

I raced down early to the 17th floor where Jam17 is for breakfast only to find it already crowded despite its claim to only open at 7am. Hotel Groove was hosting some of the Deaf Olympics and the breakfast schedule had been changed. There were International athletes milling around.

There wasn’t any rice congee which was a disappointment. I almost didn’t have any frosties as I couldn’t tear the bags open! Breakfast is a varied buffet but you also to get choose a ‘main’ from a ‘menu’ I had French pumpkin toast with pine nuts in Maple syrup which was oishii to use some of the little Japanese I know.

Almost panicked when the mobile router wasn’t working but rebooting it solved that. It was pretty reliable.

Met up with my guide for the morning Hiro who first very helpfully got me a ticket for Nabana No Sato at a nearby Family Mart then took me to Shibuya and up the Shibuya Sky. He usefully had an annual passport but other people had to buy tickets a week ahead and gamble the weather would be nice. A very packed train ride it was a struggle to stay on one’s feet. Happily the Pasmo card on my iPhone worked well, just touch it to the gate reader on entry and exit et voila.

Splendid views on this clear day, Mount Fuji was easily visible, school parties in evidence. We had to leave bags in lockers and they also insisted my hat was left too in case it blew off. I rapidly began ruing wearing a thicker coat today. We saw the statue of the loyal dog Hachi at ground level.
