Goodluck took me on a last game drive round Lake Manyara before we left for the NgoroNgoro crater area. We saw mongooses all huddling together in a large bunch. I'm impressed by the guides' ability to recognise animals from the outline of part of them. We saw more jackals with spotted black backs and also some lionesses thanks to Silvana and her guide spotting them and us noticing they had stopped. When Goodluck passed another guide vehicle going the other way he often stopped and chatted, exchanging information. I would have taken a good picture of an owl but it flew.
Leaving by the main gate I managed to use wi-fi there to reassure Virginia I was still on Earth. We then voyaged through more African townships, and dry earth scenes, to a Tanzanian gift shoppe. Very nicely done, a good display of artwork and jewellery and carvings and T-shirts. But there was nothing that grabbed me. I felt bad about using their facilities and eating our packed lunches there so I ordered a spiced cup of black coffee. It may have been revenge but what I got was an acrid Americano which burned my throat.
We arrived at the NgoroNgoro Farm House which turned out to be a large walled flower and coffee plantation, guarded with a large fence round it. An impressive mansion and swimming pool. A cheery lady called Happiness checked me in, giving me a nice lemon flavoured drink and a cookie as the forms were done. I ended up in room Chui (leopard), palatial.
Did a coffee tour with a guide Phillip from a small tribe where the men give dowry. Matrilineal? The Maasai also have the men giving dowries. They grow Arabica coffee on site, as well as a lot of 'Western' vegetables, or vegetables I know well.
A four course meal rounded off the day, vegetable soup to start with served at the table by Rosie, then a buffet where I helped myself to salad then had a stir fry with lamb then a cake for dessert!
