Virginia and I saw the
Blickling Estate,
or rather resaw it. I had thought we had seen
Felbrigg before, but no memories surfaced. However
the misleading entrance to Blickling Estate on a curve of
the road, with the car park further on, came back to
me.
We admired the parterre at Blickling, with the topiary shapes which made me think of computer buttons. We wandered to the Orangery which was closed. The blossom in the West Garden was unaffected and angelic, but the walled garden was spartan and withered. Had a little bite to eat in the cafe then went round the house. They keep the lights low to preserve stuff which makes it a little dingy.
Did a little spot of shopping at the Spar store we patronised yesterday. At first leaving Blickling the phones didn’t have a connection thus handicapping Google Maps.
In the late afternoon we drove through the enthusiastic
rain back to Cromer, having to pay at Meadow Street
carpark as it wasn’t 6pm yet. We ate at
Number One again, watching the surf come over the
sea wall from the sandy waves coming into shore.
I tried to guess which waves would spill over and
which wouldn’t.
Far fewer people upstairs than on Tuesday,
lunchtimes must be their busiest times.
So I could say I had
crab on this visit I had Cromer crab arancini!
The mini-cod main was ample, we had ice cream to wash
it down, Virginia found 3 scoops one too many.
