My first and last breakfast at Villa Samadhi. Definitely different. You get as initiation a small glass of tamarind juice laced with cinnamon, and some kind of leaf to dip in honey and chew. I settled for blandness after the stomach upset of last night. I haven't found any way of stopping the air conditioning in the room being glacial, but I'm not going to be there much longer.
My guide from yesterday took me round Brickfields now officially called Little India. It felt like one was in India! Such was the deluge of Indian shops and food. Particularly ornate were the Hindu temples which the Malaysian government has controlled to be all together in one street (thus avoiding multiple road closures during Hindu festivals). This does have the benefit for Hindus of creating a one stop shop selling all the varied Hindu pantheon. I was very careful about what I ate as I'm not very good with Indian food (which is a major cuisine in the world).
There were other faiths represented on our wandering. A Catholic church and a Lutheran church. An Islamic place with a building project going on - Government handouts can be selective. A Buddhist place. And a Hokkien Chinese place with a distinctly odd syncretic theology. Pretty Chinese temple building but to me odd thinking.
The highlight of the tour was having my feet massaged by a blind masseur. A first for me, I chickened out of having a whole body massage. The masseur turned the light off when he started, only fair - I didn't need to see what he was doing I could feel it! He was like a musician working on my toes and heel and calves and underside of the feet. It was painful at times, he was really applying pressure as he kneaded. At other times he tapped and pushed like a violinist playing pizzicato. It is one of the jobs open for the blind here, more fulfilling I hope than lift attendant.
I retreated back to the Villa Samadhi (the name makes me think of Baron Samedi from voodoo) but building noises drove me to try afternoon tea. Perhaps not a wise choice in this heat! A fond farewell to the staff at the Villa Samadhi, we waved to each other several times as the taxi took me on the long journey to the airport.
Ages checking the bags in, picked the wrong queue perhaps. Did find a Burger King for a snack before the flight, wasn't able to take water on board so the polos came in useful. The inflight entertainment kept failing but time passed as it does.
