Last time to hear the trains so close in Parnell, their gruntings and wheezings and shufflings. It's a shock at first but it's something one (I) can get used to and not mind, like the calls of birds or Church bells.
Last time to fail to lock the bathroom door, it never locked me for me no matter how gently I glided it shut.
Last time to try opening and shutting the smart cupboard doors where you press for them to open, then gingerly push them back to shut. I finished up the flaked cereals we got when we arrived so that was ideal.
Last time to contend with the door lock which is pretty neat. Hand over to bring up the keypad, type in 4 numbers then the unlock key, wait for the click. To lock from the outside hand over the lock again. Bruce and Vicky can set additional numbers for the door lock so carpenters etc can have temporary access.
And last act of tourism in New Zealand for 2024. I caught the ferry across to Devonport, and walked to Northhead, admiring the shops and hotels and villas which would have fitted into an English seaside town. There were naval fortifications on Northhead which never saw action, leaving behind gun emplacements and a few tunnels. And a good view of Auckland and Rangitoto Island.
