Slate Mine

Went along the well kept roads of Gwynedd to Llanfair Slate Caverns which were worth popping down - strange going from unpleasant and dangerous place of worth, to where explosives and precious art were stored in WW2, to now a tourist attraction. We got a slate coaster and fridge magnet souvenir.

A wasted trip up a vicious narrow road which turned and twisted to find we weren't going to see Harlech Castle, Virginia wasn't sure about the floating bridge one would have to cross to enter the castle walls. Another wasted trip to Tyddyn Mawr Tea Rooms, one for walkers only nowhere to park. And along more single-track winding roads where one prayed nothing was coming.

Toastie

In the end we walked down into Porthmadog and made down with toasties (well I did) at Kitty's which was fine.

Dined with Laura and Phillip who joined us today at Spooners right by Porthmadog railway station. There seemed to be a wake going on, Phil said that some people choose to have their ashes added to fireboxes in steam trains as a way of being disposed of.

They had brought along some games including Rummikub. This might be a fun game sometimes but not being able to start at all wasn't fun for me when we all tried a game of it.
