portmeirion.jpegOne reason we went to Porthmadog is because I wanted to see Portmeirion after watching The Prisoner on TV. And today was the day that we all set off for Portmeirion. It did not disappoint!

Such an eye-catching mix of colours and styles, the buildings together with the vegetation. Not too crowded, we easily found space in the Town Hall for our lunchtime baguettes (which turned out to come warm which was fine). We had ice cream cones after lunch - my banana flavoured one was very generous and I didn’t reduce it quickly enough to stop drops falling where they shouldn’t.

We dropped into the Prisoner shop (they didn’t have caps so I made do with a book as £45 for a bath towel felt a lot). We also dropped into a shop selling Portmeirion crockery (in times past I acquired a collection of same) and also a Pot Jam shop. Walked around the headland seeing a Chinese lake overshadowed by trees and bushes. But the star was the village itself with its strange buildings and ersatz ship forever moored.

In the evening we ate at the Good Mood right by the harbour and right in the Yacht club. A cosy friendly place.
